What is CBT?

  • CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
  • It is a treatment method that involves you working together with your psychologist to change thoughts, feelings and patterns of behaviour that are not working well and that are detrimental to your mental health.
  • CBT is a structured, active treatment that focuses more on how you feel and function right now rather than on events that happened in the past.
  • Homework is very important in CBT and is used to enable the treatment to continue in the environment where the problem exists or occurs. It enables you to test and train new ways of thinking and patterns of behaviour in your everyday life.
  • The homework is adapted as far as possible to your needs and circumstances to ensure that you benefit from it as much as possible.
